This may sound odd, but before you go on your shoe shopping expedition, you need a plan. First of all, make a mental note of which stores you want to visit. If you don't have much time, try and narrow down your choice to the shops with good quality and low prices rather than spending time in ocer-priced designer shops just looking at at shoes that you have no intention of buying.

Perhaps you want that perfect pair of shoes to stun your boyfriend or beloved for that special occasion or you just want to cheer yourself up. Know what your budget is before you go! This is a really important step. It's all too easy to get carried away and spend more than you should. So, work out your maximum and see just what you can get for that amount of money. When you plan in this way you will find that you can probably afford a couple of pairs from the discount designer shoe shops.

Now it's time to turn into a tough shoe shopper! If you are going into a shoe boutique, like one of those designer ones, you have to expect to find some very snobby sales people. It's not unusual for them to suggest that the shoe simply doesn't look good on your unworthy foot. I have known stores that insist you wash your feet before try the shoes on in store-provided socks.

Ok, with this out of the way you can actually get to try on a pair of shoes. But even if you know your shoe size, don't buy a pair of shoes before you've tried them on, (however this is a far more common mistake with men, they don't seem to try enything on first). Slip them on, and walk around the shoe store for a bit and don't let anyone rush you. You will save time in the long run by not having to take them back. Make sure they are nice and comfortable, and that they don't pinch.

After reading all this it's not hard to see why shoe shopping can be so draining, but the time you've spent planning will really pay off in the end. Be careful when you're exploring unchartered territory. Avoid being embarrassed by those snobby sales folks by washing your tootsies and you'll no dounbt find a perfect set of shoes that are right for you.

I know this has already been mentioned but just make sure that you walk around for a while when you try on a pair to determine the comfort and durability of the shoe in question.

But the most important rule of all is to enjoy yourself! Shoe shopping can be a lot of fun, and even more so when you go with a friend or two! If you get tired take a break, go and have a coffee and a chat, and then go back to it with a fresh outset.
